You'll be the one flying. $99.

TEACH THE AIRPLAE YOU ALREADY FLY.

Not a tour. Not a ride along. You sit in the left seat, and after we're off the ground the airplane is yours. An instructor sits beside you the whole time, and the hour goes in your logbook.

What actually happens

Three steps

Before the flight — about 20 minutes. You meet your instructor and we walk around the airplane together. Fuel, oil, control surfaces, tires. You'll do the checks yourself while the instructor explains what each one is for. This part is not filler. It's the first lesson of the private pilot course, and you're doing it.

In the air. Your instructor handles the takeoff. Once we're clear of the pattern, you take the controls — climbs, turns, level flight, and a look at Lakeland from a few thousand feet. You'll fly most of it. Your instructor takes the airplane back for the landing, unless you'd rather follow along on the controls, which most people do.

After — 10 minutes. We sit down, give you your certificate of completion, sign your logbook, and answer whatever came up. No pitch. If you want to book a lesson we'll book one, and if you want to think about it for six months that's fine too.

What it costs

$99, and that's the whole number

$99 covers the airplane, the fuel and the instructor. There's no fuel surcharge, no landing fee and no booking fee added at checkout. If weather cancels the flight you pay nothing and we reschedule.

The aircraft is the Texas Aircraft COLT or Cessna C152

. Two seats: yours and the instructor's, so this one is a solo visit.

Want to bring someone? The Cessna 172 seats four, and a discovery flight in the 172 is $119. One passenger can ride in the back and watch.

It counts toward your license

This is hour one, not a demo.

Your instructor endorses your logbook before you leave. That time is dual instruction received, and it counts toward the 40 hours the private pilot certificate requires, the same as any lesson you fly here next year.

Before you book, read this one

Don't apply for a medical certificate yet.

You need no certificate and no medical to fly a discovery flight. Your instructor is the pilot in command, so you can walk in tomorrow with nothing but a driver's licence.

Later is where it matters. If you eventually want to fly as a sport pilot, you can use a U.S. driver's licence instead of an FAA medical — but only if you have never been denied one.

Apply, get turned down, and that route closes permanently.

So talk to us first. Ten minutes on the phone before you fill in a MedXPress form can save you the only medical-free path into flying. This costs you nothing and we don't charge for the conversation.

Who this is and isn't for

Book one if:

You've wondered about it for years and never sat in the left seat

You want to know whether you actually like flying before committing money to a certificate

You're deciding between us and a bigger school and want to meet an instructor first

You flew years ago and want to see how much came back

Don't book one if:

You want a sightseeing flight for the family that's a different thing

You're expecting the discovery flight to tell you whether you'll finish. It won't. It tells you whether you enjoy it, which is a different and better question

You get motion sick and haven't tested it. Tell us when you book and we'll fly smooth air early in the morning

Questions?

Do I need to know anything beforehand? No. Wear sunglasses, skip the heavy breakfast, and turn up.

What if the weather's bad? We call you the evening before. You pay nothing and we rebook.

Can I record it? Yes. Bring a phone mount or a GoPro. Ask your instructor before you stick anything to the airframe.

How much weight can you take?

All of our aircraft has limits. If thats a concern book in the 172, or call and tell us your weight when you book and we'll tell you straight away how we can make it work.

Is this a Part 141 school? No, we train under Part 61, which is why you can pay per lesson and fly on your own schedule.

Can I fly if I wear glasses / am 55 / have never flown? Yes to all three.

A discovery flight is flight training. You are receiving instruction from an authorized flight instructor, who acts as pilot in command; no pilot or medical certificate is required of you to participate. Training time is logged and endorsed under 14 CFR 61.51 and may be credited toward the aeronautical experience requirements for a certificate or rating. Medical certificate requirements, including the conditions under which a U.S. driver's license may be used for sport pilot operations, are set out in 14 CFR 61.23. Legends Aviation Academy trains under 14 CFR Part 61. We're a flight school, and what we guarantee is training, not employment.
